SANTA"S PRAYER
"Santa's Prayer"
The sleigh was all packed, the reindeer were fed,
but Santa still knelt by the side of the bed.
"Dear Father," he prayed "be with me tonight,
there's much work to do and my schedule is tight.
I must jump in my sleigh and streak through the sky,
knowing full well that a reindeer can't fly.
I will visit each household before the first light,
I'll cover the world and all in one night.
With sleigh bells a-ringing, I will land on each roof,
amid the soft clatter of each little hoof.
To get into the house is the difficult part,
so I'll slide down the chimney of each child's heart.
My sack will hold toys to grant all their wishes,
the supply will be endless like the loaves and the fishes.
I will fill all the stockings and not leave a track
I will eat every cookie that is left for my snack.
I can do all these things Lord, only through you,
I just need Your blessing, then it's easy to do.
All this is to honor the birth of the One,
that was sent to redeem us, Your most holy Son.
So to all of my friends, least Your glory I rob,
please Lord, remind them Who gave me this job".

CANDLES
I will light candles this Holiday Season
Candles of joy...despite all sadness,
Candles of hope...where despair keeps watch.
Candles of courage...where fear is ever present,
Candles of peace...for tempest-tossed days,
Candles of grace...to ease heavy burdens.
Candles of love...to inspire all my living,
Candles that will burn all the year long.
Joy Hope Courage Peace Grace Love

LEARN ABOUT LIFE FROM A SNOWMAN
I Learned All About Life From a Snowman...
~ It's okay if you're a little bottom heavy.
~ Hold your ground, even when the heat is on.
~ Wearing white is always appropriate.
~ Winter is the best of the four seasons.
~ It takes a few extra rolls to make a good midsection.
~ There's nothing better than a foul weather friend.
~ The key to life is to be a jolly, happy soul.
~ We're all made up of mostly water.
~ You know you've made it when they write a song about you.
~ Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize!
~ Don't get too much sun.
~ It's embarrassing when you can't look down and see your feet.
~ It's fun to hang out in your front yard.
~ Always put your best foot forward.
~ There's no stopping you once you're on a roll.

MEMORIES OF CHRISTMAS
"The memories most endearing
no matter where I roam,
are those of Christmas' past
in a place I knew as home.
The magic of the season
with scent of wax and pine,
The aroma from the kitchen
that beckoned us to dine.
The dancing lights upon the tree
that cast their yuletide spell,
The joyous song of carolers
singing "Peace on Earth, Noel"
The memories of lost loved ones
they live and always will,
for one ever dies in our hearts
(in a place where time stands still)
The treasured scenes of yesteryear
could prayer but make them last?
Traditions of the heart live on
in dreams of Christmas' past.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS
I Love Christmas
The older I get ...The closer I
feel to old friends as I write
my Christmas cards...
The more I cherish old ornaments...
The more fondly I remember
Christmases past...
The longer I hold on to a
Christmas hug...
The more I realize Christmas
is a matter of the heart...
The tighter my throat gets when
I sing "Silent Night"...
The more I enjoy giving
than receiving...
The longer I sit at night
in the glow of the Christmas tree...
The more wondrously beautiful
the Christmas story...
The deeper my awe at
God's infinite love...The more
I love Christmas!

CHILL IN THE AIR
There's a chill in the air
and the sweet smell of pine
Friends coming together
it's Christmas time
Children playing with sleds
on the new fallen snow
Toys in store windows
have their eyes all aglow
Chapel bells ringing
from the old town square
Decorations on Main Street
being put up with care
Christmas shoppers beginning
to fill the malls
Where trees are adorned
with garland and balls
Out Christmas shopping
I spotted a sign
Santa's Work Shop,
with children in line
I walked up closer
so that I could hear
What the children wanted
from Santa this year
When from in line
I saw a young lad
By the look on his face,
I could tell he was sad
I walked up closer
so that I could see
As he took his turn
upon Santa's knee
Santa, I don't want toys
under the tree
All I want is my Daddy, here
with Mommy and me
It's been so long
since he's been gone
When he left the grass was
still green on the lawn
You see, We're in the Military
and he had to go
And Mommy and I miss him,
more than you know
When I'm in bed and
she thinks I'm asleep
She reads over his letters
and starts to weep
But, if you can't do it,
I'll understand
Since Daddy's been gone,
I'm Mom's little man
As you deliver your presents,
give a message from me
We gave up Christmas with Daddy,
So children stay free!

NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS
No matter what happens,
No matter what you do,
I hope that you will stay the same.
I hope you'll always be you.
You are very special,
No one can take that away.
So when the problems call
And the darkness falls,
Never forget that
someone cares about you.
Never forget your dreams;
They aren't as far away,
As you might think they seem.
Let nothing get you down,
And when the times get rough,
Simply smile like a circus clown.
No matter what you do,
I hope that you will stay the same.
I hope you'll always be you.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE INTERNET CHRISTMAS
T'was the Internet Night Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Net,
There were hacker's a surfing. Nerds? Yeah, you bet.
The e-mails were stacked by the modem with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The newbies were nestled all snug by their screens,
While visions of Java danced in their dreams.
My wife on the sofa and me with a snack,
We just settled down at my rig (it's a Mac).
When out in the Web there arose such a clatter,
I jumped to the site to see what was the matter.
To a new page my Mac flew like a flash,
Then made a slight gurgle. It started to crash!!
I gasped at the thought and started to grouse,
Then turned my head sideways and clicked on my mouse.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
My Mac jumped to a page that wasn't quite clear.
When the image resolved, so bright and so quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick!
More rapid than mainframes, more graphics they came,
Then Nick glanced toward my screen, my Mac called them by name;
"Now Compaq! Now Acer!", my speaker did reel;
"On Apple! On Gateway!" Santa started to squeal!
"Jump onto the circuits! And into the chip!
Now speed it up! Speed it up! Make this thing hip!"
The screen gave a flicker, he was into my "Ram",
Then into my room rose a full hologram!
He was dressed in all red, from his head to his shoes,
Which were black (the white socks he really should lose).
He pulled out some discs he had stored in his backpack.
Santa looked like a dude who was rarin' to hack!
His eyes, how they twinkled! His glasses, how techno!
This ain't the same Santa that I used to know!
With a wink of his eye and a nod of his head,
Santa soon let me know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, gave my Mac a quick poke,
And accessed my C drive with only a stroke.
He defragged my hard drive, and added a "Dimm",
Then threw in some cool games, just on a whim!
He worked without noise, his fingers they flew!
He distorted some pictures with Kai's Power Goo!
He updated Office, Excel and Quicken,
Then added a screensaver with a red clucking chicken!
My eyes widened a bit, my mouth stood agape,
As he added the latest version of Netscape.
The drive gave a whirl, as if it were pleased,
St. Nick coyly smiled, the computer appeased.
Then placing his finger on the bridge of his nose,
Santa turned into nothing but ones and zeros!
He flew back into my screen and through my uplink,
Back into the net with barely a blink.
But I heard his sweet voice as he flew from my sight,
"Happy surfing to all, and to all a good byte!"

HALLOWEEN
Our dog needed a minor surgery and the vet sent
our dog home with a cone around her neck for protection.
On halloween night the trick or treaters came to the door.
One little boy looked at our dog and said,
"Awwww, the doggie is dressed like a flashlight!"

NO CHILDREN
No children in the house to play--
It must be hard to live that way!
I wonder what the people do
When night comes on and the work is through,
With no glad little folks to shout,
No eager feet to race about,
No youthful tongues to chatter on
About the joy that's been and gone?
The house might be a castle fine,
But what a lonely place to dine!
No children in the house at all,
No fingermarks upon the wall,
No corner where the toys are piled--
Sure indication of a child.
No little lips to breathe the prayer
That God shall keep you in His care,
No glad caress and welcome sweet
When night returns you to your street;
No little lips a kiss to give--
Oh, what a lonely way to live!
No children in the house! I fear
We could not stand it half a year.
What would we talk about at night,
Plan for and work with all our might,
Hold common dreams about and find
True union of heart and mind,
If we two had no greater care
Than what we both should eat and wear?
We never knew love's brightest flame
Until the day the baby came.
And now we could not get along
Without their laughter and their song.
Joy is not bottled on a shelf,
It cannot feed upon itself,
And even love, if it shall wear,
Must find its happiness in care;
Dull we'd become of mind and speech
Had we no little ones to teach.
No children in the house to play!
Oh, we could never live that way!

GLEANINGS
"I got two A's", the small boy cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very bluntly asked,
"Why didn't you get three?"
"Mom, I've got the dishes done,"
The girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
"Did you sweep the floor?"
"I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said,
And put the mower away.
His father asked him with a shrug,
"Did you clean off the clay?"
The children in the house next door,
Seem happy and content.
The same things happen over there
But this is how it went.
"I got two A's, the small boy cried,

His father very proudly said,
"That's great, I'm glad you belong to me."

"Each day I love you more."

"You've made my happy day."

MOM'S BATHING SUIT
My friends 5yr old daughter went shopping with
her to help her find a new bathing suit.
After trying on many bathing suits the mom
decided on a black and white one.
The little girl exclaimed,"Oh Mommy you look so pretty.
You look like Shamu the whale!"

8) The sentence, "Honey, could you take his foot out of my pocket?" sounds normal.
7) You are used to doing everything one-handed.
6) The thought of your mother-in-law coming over for a few hours is a pleasant one.
5) The list of bodily fluids that disgust you has shortened, possibly to zero.
4) Your idea of romance is hand holding.
3) You answer the question "How are you?" with "We're fine."
2) You decide whether a shirt is wearable based on how well the spit-up stains match the shirt's main color.
1) You see a slender teenage girl walking down your street, and you think, "Hey, I wonder if I could interest her in babysitting?"

Play With Me
I tried to teach my child with books,
he gave me only puzzled looks.
I tried to teach my child with words,
they passed him by, oft unheard.
Despairingly I turned aside.
"How shall I teach this child?" I cried.
Into my hands he put the key,
"Come," he said, "and play with me"
he gave me only puzzled looks.

Hokey Pokey
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment ,it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went unnoticed last week.Larry Laprise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at age 93.The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Lipstick
According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem.
A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.
Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back.
Finally, the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses).
To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.
He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.
There are teachers ... and then there are educators.

To my daughters:
Once upon a time,
somebody really special
was born.
The sun was shining,
the birds were singing,
and the stars
were dancing
in the sky.
People smiled
and oooohed and ahhhhed
and celebrated
just because they felt
so happy,
And from that moment on,
the whole world
became a nicer place!
